Which of these ways to get help to stop smoking would you consider?

Turns out, your mum was right—dairy, fruits and veggies are really good for your health. What she may not have known is that they can also help you quit smoking, according to researchers at Duke University Medical Center.

In one of the first studies to explore the taste-altering affects of food and drink on cigarette palatability, scientists reported that milk, water, fruits and vegetables worsen the taste of cigarettes, while coffee and meat are natural flavour enhancers. Not too surprisingly, alcohol was a top brew in the latter category, with 44 percent of smokers agreeing that a drink before or during boosts their taste.

Identifying and understanding what make cigs unpalatable could lead to new smoking treatments, and help smokers make smarter diet decisions so they’re less likely to enjoy the taste of cigarettes. In that light (pun intended), here are a few foods to help you kick butt at kicking the butt.

And here’s one healthy (and super easy) Blackberry & Apple Crumble Smoothie recipe from cookery queen Justine Pattison, leveraging ingredients listed above to help you curb cig cravings. Enjoy!
